Storyline:
Dhamaka is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language thriller film written and directed by Ram Madhvani, who also produced it with Amrita Madhvani under his label Ram Madhvani Films, alongside RSVP Movies, Lotte Cultureworks, Global Gate Entertainment, and Lionsgate Films. The film is an official remake of the 2013 film The Terror Live, which was co-written in the adaption by Puneet Sharma. It stars Kartik Aaryan in the starring character of Arjun Pathak, a journalist who receives a threat after exclusively interviewing a terrorist who blew up a bridge. Mrunal Thakur and Amruta Subhash also play important roles in the film.
Sunir Kheterpal of Azure Entertainment, together with the original film’s producers, first proposed the adaptation. Screwvala secured the rights to the adaptation after Kheterpal quit the project, with Madhvani in charge. An official announcement was made in November 2020, and production commenced in Mumbai in December 2020 and was completed in 10 days. The post-production work began concurrently and was completed in four months, including pending visual effects and graphics processes that were continued following the COVID-19 lockdown in September 2021 due to the second wave of the pandemic. Manu Anand is in charge of the cinematography, and Monisha Baldawa and Amit Karia are in charge of the editing.
Vishal Khurana composed the music and background score. Originally planned for a theatrical release, the producers changed their minds in January 2021 in favour of a direct-to-digital distribution on Netflix on November 19, 2021. Following its release, the film will be shown in the 52nd International Film Festival of India. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, praising Aaryan’s performance and Madhvani’s directing while criticising the hackneyed plot and lines.
