Storyline:
Jagame Thandhiram is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, and produced by S. Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra of YNOT Studios, in collaboration with Reliance Entertainment. Dhanush, James Cosmo, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Kalaiyarasan appear in the film. James Cosmo makes his Indian cinema debut, and Joju George makes his Tamil debut. Suruli, a carefree thug in Madurai, is recruited to assist an overseas crime boss in taking down a rival, but is caught off guard by the moral quandaries that ensue.
The project was first announced in April 2016 with Thenandal Studio Limited as the production company, however it was later cancelled due to financial issues surrounding the production house. It was resurrected in February 2018, with YNOT Studios purchasing the film production rights. Following an official release in July 2019, the film began production in September 2019, with filming taking place in London, Madurai, Rameshwaram, and Jaipur, and was completed in December 2019. Santhosh Narayanan composed the songs and background score, while Shreyas Krishna handled cinematography and Vivek Harshan edited the film.
Jagame Thandhiram was supposed to hit theatres on May 1, 2020, however it was postponed indefinitely because to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the filmmakers originally intended to distribute the picture only in theatres, this choice was abandoned in February 2021 in favour of a worldwide digital release via Netflix on June 18, 2021. It was dubbed and distributed in 17 languages in 190 countries. Both critics and audiences gave the film mediocre reviews.
