The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead roles, whereas K. K. Raina, Alka Amin, Vipin Sharma, Govind Namdev, Navni Parihar Nayani Dixit Manoj Pahwa, and many others played supporting characters. The story centers around two people namely. Satyendra Mishra and Aarti Shukla. It traces their story from the moment they meet through an engagement proposal. They begin to fall in love with one and then, on that night, their wedding fate, fate, and personal choices, send the two of them on two distinct directions.

A member of a strict household, Aarti Shukla, an educated and intelligent girl from Kanpur and meets Satyendra “Sattu” Mishra, an inspector at the Excise Department, on her parents’ persistent attempts at trying to negotiate an arrangement wedding for their daughter. Aarti is awed by Sattu’s unconventional views appealing and puts only one concern before Sattu, that following marriage her in-laws will let her to get a job. Sattu is fascinated by the beauty of Aarti and agrees with this. Sattu along with Aarti decides to take a step forward and fall in love.
